Welcome to the website of the 'Friends of the Rec' which was formed as a registered charity in 2003 to support sport, wellbeing and recreation in our community, primarily on the Histon & Impington Recreation Ground.
Sport – the Friends of the Rec are active in the promotion and development of sporting and exercise activities for residents of all ages, primarily on Histon & Impington Recreation Ground. We currently organise over 15 weekly activities on the Rec. We helped start HI Runners and in Spring 2018 are launching the Histon & Impington Community Athletics Club for children and young people.
Wellbeing - working closely with the Histon & Impington Community Village Older People’s Coordinator team (Jean Newman and Paul Seekings) we help organise dedicated activities to support older people including stroke recoverers and a new Memory & Coordination activity. These activities are organised under the umbrella of the HI Rec Monday Club.
Recreation – the Friends undertake a number of popular fundraising events to help develop facilities on the Recreation Ground and the Rec Play Area. Funds have been raised to provide a new quiet area on the Rec which includes restoration of the old Agricultural Pump.
Our community fundraising takes place throughout the year with a variety of different events such as the Impington 5k Running Festival in May, Flaming June Half Marathon in June, Strawberry 50 Cycle Event in September and, to round the year off, the Bonfire Burn 10k in November - all now well established and highly popular on local event calendars. The Friends are always keen to innovate with new event ideas.
