A perfect evening for the return of the fantastic band the “Indie Killers” (you could just close your eyes and imagine you were at Glastonbury!). Doors opened 7.00pm at the Grand Marquee on Histon & Impington Recreation Ground.

Thursday 13 June at 7:45pm: Public Meeting to Discuss Potential merger of Friends of the Rec and HICOM
Over recent months the Trustees of Friends of Histon & Impington Recreation and Histon & Impington Community (HICOM) have been discussing working closer together. Both charity boards consider that the level of interaction between them and their overlapping wellbeing objectives make a compelling case for considering a merger at this time. There was a public meeting on Thursday 13th June at 7.45pm at St Andrews Church Hall, Impington to provide further information and a forum for discussion. More details in: MergerMeetingStatement.pdf.
Sunday 2 June 2019: Flaming June Half Marathon and Quarter Marathon
The sixth year of this immensely popular running event – described as “easily the best of any event I’ve done which includes a multitude of cycle races, runs and triathlons”! The Quarter Marathon started first at 9.20am followed by the Half Marathon start at 9:30am. There was also a HI Wellbeing Mile starting at 9.45am for families and children to run a mile course around Histon & Impington Recreation Ground.

Sat 4 May to Mon 13th 2019: Village Wellbeing Week
The Friends worked closely with Histon & Impington Community (HICOM) to bring this new initiative to the village and provide over a week of different activities to help everyone in Histon & Impington to improve their wellbeing through social, physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing opportunities. Monday 6 May 2019: Impington Running Festival
Another hugely successful Running Festival with a range of running events for all the family, including All Age 5k and 3K runs, Under 9’s 1K, Under 4’s 200m and the Super Sensory 1K inclusive event for EVERYONE around the Rec – dotted with Sensory Stations to delight your senses – touch, taste, view, hear and smell 😀 . Fun for everyone as participants can walk, run, push or be pushed!
Monday 6 May Bank Holiday 10am-4pm – H&I Skatepark Project with FREE lessons!
The Histon & Impington Skatepark Project offered free professional skateboard lessons at the Orchard Park Skatepark on Ring Fort Road. There were special groups for ages 6-11 from 10am to 3pm, ages 11+ from 11am to 2pm, plusan all age drop-in group from 12 to 1pm. 7:45pm Friday 25 January 2019: The BIG Winter Quiz
Once again a great atmosphere at the Friends of the Rec’s BIG Winter Quiz for a fun evening at the Rec Centre! Teams of up to 8 competed for only £5 per person, payable on the night.
Sunday 4 November 2018: Bonfire Burn 10K Run 2018
The Bonfire Burn has become an established late Autumn favourite with over 1,000 runners but still retaining a real village community event atmosphere. The Multi Terrain Course started at the Histon and Impington Recreation ground and passed along the Northern Country Fringe of Cambridge.
Friday 12 October 7:45pm: Quiz Night at the Rec Centre!
It was a full house with teams of up to 6 people for the Quiz Night on Friday 12th October in aid of Recreation Ground funds. Food was provided in the shape of a jacket potato with filling and great fun was had by all!
Sunday 7 October 5pm: Table Tennis restarted
Table Tennis has started again on Sunday 7 October 2018 at the usual time of 5pm to 6:30 in the Rec Centre community room, and continues each Sunday through to May. The season charges remain unchanged at £22 for adults and £11 for under 16s, or you can pay as you go for £3 per session (£2 for under 16’s). See Table Tennis.
Sunday 9 September: Strawberry 50 Cycle Event 2018 – SADLY, CANCELLED 😥
Regretfully, the Strawberry 50 organising group found that the deterioration of road surfaces and lack of repair to potholes is of concern for the safety of riders and the entire 2018 event had to be cancelled. Hopefully all will be well for the 2019 event.
The Strawberry 50 Cycle Event is a fun and relaxed way to enjoy cycling along the country roads of south west Cambridgeshire. With 3 courses: a longer 55-mile route, a 28-mile route and a shorter family-friendly 14-mile version, the event is open to cyclists of all standards from young children to veteran riders and from occasional bikers to regulars. Each course is well signposted with plenty of marshals on hand throughout the day. Water stops and food and drink are available for sale around the course, offering a chance to take a rest, pick up a snack and chat with other cyclists. Everyone cycles at their own speed or alongside their friends and family.
Tuesday 3 July: Feast Rounders 2018 – Adult Tournament
Started at 6.45pm at Impington Village College. Teams of 9 invited (all teams play at least 4 games).
Entry fee of £18 per team went directly to 2018 Feast Charities.

Sunday 1 July: Community Feast of Sport
It was a gloriously sunny day and many people joined in the numerous sporting activities between 2pm to 5pm on the Recreation Ground – a veritable Feast of Sport, as part of the Histon Feast Festival (30th June to 8th July 2018). A huge range of activities for the whole family were on offer including: Tennis, Kwik Cricket, Hockey, Table Tennis, Mini & Family Athletics, Timed Obstacle Courses, Croquet, Badminton, Archery, Ultimate Frisbee, Space Hoppers, New Age Curling, Visually Impaired Football, Goalball and other inclusive sports!
Entry £1, Children 50p. Refreshments and BBQ available 😎

Tuesday 19 June: Summer Rounders 2018
Social fun rounders for adults at 6.30pm on the Rec. Practice time for the Feast Tournament in July or just to have some fun!

Once again in glorious weather, starting cloudy and a little humid with welcome relief when running in the shady woodland paths.
The Quarter Marathon started first at 9.20am and the Half Marathon started at 9.30am – to help avoid the heat 😎 .
There was also a HI Wellbeing Mile starting at 9.45am for families and children to run a mile course around Histon & Impington Recreation Ground.

Tuesday 22 May 7:30pm: Ladies and Girls Sports Festival
This was a brand new event for 2018 organised by Friends of the Rec to encourage women and girls (over 14) to try a variety of sports and fitness activities with taster sessions and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
The sports included hockey, football, croquet, cricket, netball, running, tennis, and a bootcamp.
Registration was on the day from 5:45pm.
All activities were free and all were suitable for beginners.
Monday 7 May: Impington May Day Running Festival … for the Whole Family !
This popular Friends of the Rec annual event attracted over 500 runners across the different races in 2018 with its range of runs for all the family on the Histon and Impington Recreation Ground. The Running Festival began with registration on the day from 9am and first event at 9:45am.
1K for under 9s;
3K for all ages;
5K for all ages.
Plus a Super Sensory 1K around the Rec – dotted with Sensory Stations to delight your senses – touch, taste, view, hear and smell 😀 . Fun for everyone young, old, disabled or non-disabled. Participants can walk, run, push or be pushed!
